Himplant Recovery: What to Expect Week by Week After Penile Enlargement Surgery
Published: March 30, 2026 • Written by David Robbins, MD, Board-Certified Urologist, North Miami, FL
One of the most common questions men ask before committing to the Himplant procedure is: what does recovery actually look like? How much time will I need off work? When can I exercise? When can I resume sexual activity? These are important, practical questions—and having clear answers helps men plan with confidence.
At Urological Consultants of Florida, Dr. David Robbins walks every patient through the recovery process in detail before surgery. Here is a general week-by-week timeline of what to expect. Keep in mind that individual healing varies, and Dr. Robbins will provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation.
Day of Surgery
The Himplant procedure takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes and is performed under anesthesia at an outpatient surgery center. A small incision is made on the scrotum—there is no incision on the penis itself. The silicone implant is inserted beneath the skin, drawn down the shaft, and contoured to your unique anatomy. Most men return home the same day. A surgical dressing is placed at the end of the procedure.
Week 1: Initial Healing
Swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are expected in the first week. These are well managed with prescribed medication and ice therapy. The surgical dressing is typically removed at a follow-up visit the day after surgery. Most patients can handle light, non-physical desk work within a few days, though many men prefer to take the full first week off to rest comfortably.
Key restrictions during Week 1:
- No heavy lifting or exercise
- No sexual activity or self-stimulation
- No submerging the wound in water (showering is permitted)
- No tobacco or illicit drug use
- Keep incision clean and dry
Weeks 2–4: Gradual Return to Routine
By the second week, most swelling has begun to subside noticeably, and discomfort is minimal for most patients. You should be able to return to normal daily activities and desk work without difficulty. Light upper body exercise may be permitted after approximately 4 weeks, depending on Dr. Robbins' assessment at your follow-up visits.
The implant is still settling into position during this phase. It is critical to avoid any type of penis pump, sleeve, or penis exercises after the procedure, as deviation from post-operative instructions can result in complications including implant removal.
Weeks 4–6: Increasing Activity
By the 4-to-6-week mark, most patients are cleared for light lower body exercise. The incision site should be well-healed. You will continue wearing a compressive dressing (UroWrap) during strenuous activity for 6 months after the procedure to support optimal healing and implant positioning.
Weeks 6–8: Resuming Sexual Activity
Sexual activity is typically resumed after 6 to 8 weeks, depending on individual healing. Dr. Robbins will provide clearance at a follow-up appointment. Most men are also cleared for regular workouts by this point. Patients may experience some residual sensitivity or tightness that continues to improve over the coming months.
Months 3–12: Final Results
The Himplant continues to integrate with the surrounding tissue over several months. A capsule forms around the implant that gives it an increasingly natural feel to the touch. This process takes anywhere between 6 to 12 months. In some cases, penis size continues to increase during this period as the capsule provides additional thickness and the penis stretches from the weight of the implant to provide additional length.
Many patients have experienced an increase in girth of 1–2 inches and potential improvements in flaccid length. Patients often report that the implant is undetectable to sexual partners who have not seen their penis prior to the procedure. Individual results may vary.
Tips for a Successful Recovery
- Follow Dr. Robbins' post-operative instructions exactly — deviations can lead to complications
- No tobacco or illicit drugs for at least 3 months after surgery
- Attend all follow-up appointments — Dr. Robbins will monitor healing and address any concerns
- Be patient — final results develop over months, not days
- Communicate openly — contact the office if you experience significant swelling, pain, fever, or any concern
Looking for a Non-Surgical Alternative?
Dr. Robbins also performs non-surgical penile enhancement procedures. Non-surgical penile girth enhancement using dermal fillers are gaining significant traction in the world of male cosmetic interventions resulting from excellent aesthetic outcomes and high patient satisfaction. The safest and most effective material to perform penile enhancement procedures is a Hyaluronic Acid injection called Juvéderm. The entire procedure can be performed in approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. Men can return to normal activities the same day, but sexual activity must be held ideally for 1–2 weeks. The manufacture of the high-quality hyaluronic acid brand (Juvéderm) that Dr. Robbins uses is projected to last for 12 to 24 months. Of course, every person and situation is unique and results and duration of response can vary with each individual.
