Vasectomy Cost in Miami: Insurance, Self-Pay, and What to Expect in 2026

One of the first questions men ask when considering a vasectomy is: how much is this going to cost? It is a fair question—and unlike many areas of health care, the answer is refreshingly straightforward. Vasectomy is one of the most affordable procedures in all of medicine, and at Urological Consultants of Florida, we believe in complete pricing transparency.

Self-Pay Vasectomy Pricing at Our North Miami Office

For patients without insurance or those who prefer to pay out of pocket, here is what a vasectomy at our practice costs:

  • Initial consultation: $250
  • Vasectomy procedure: $725
  • Booking deposit: A $400 deposit is collected at scheduling and applied toward the total procedure cost

The total out-of-pocket cost for a self-pay vasectomy is $975—and that includes the consultation, the procedure, and follow-up semen analysis coordination. There are no hidden facility fees, no anesthesia charges, and no hospital costs, because the entire procedure is performed in our office under local anesthesia.

Does Insurance Cover Vasectomy?

Most major insurance plans cover vasectomy as an outpatient surgical procedure, subject to your plan's copay and deductible. However, vasectomy is not mandated to be covered at no cost under the Affordable Care Act the way female sterilization is. That means your out-of-pocket cost with insurance depends on your specific plan.

Our front office team can verify your benefits before your appointment so there are no surprises. If you have insurance questions, call our office at (305) 575-2771 and we will help you understand your coverage.

A Note on State-Level Changes

As of 2025, nine states now require state-regulated insurance plans to cover vasectomy at no cost to the patient: California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. Florida is not currently among them—but the national conversation around equitable contraceptive coverage for men is gaining momentum.

Vasectomy Is a Fraction of the Cost of Alternatives

When you compare vasectomy to other forms of permanent or long-term contraception, the value becomes obvious:

Method Approximate Cost Notes
Vasectomy $975 self-pay One-time cost, office procedure, 15 minutes
Tubal Ligation $3,000–$7,000+ Hospital procedure, general anesthesia, longer recovery
Birth Control Pills $20–$50/month Ongoing cost, adds up over years
IUD $500–$1,300 Effective 3–7 years, requires replacement
Condoms ~$500/year Ongoing cost, lower effectiveness rate

Over even a 5-year horizon, vasectomy pays for itself many times over compared to ongoing contraception costs—and it does so with the highest effectiveness rate of any male contraceptive method.

What You Get for the Investment

When you have your vasectomy at Urological Consultants of Florida, your cost covers:
